Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Theresa Allen — December 31, 2022

Greetings and Welcome to the New Year!

We are so thankful for this past year……so much growth. Speaking of growth, we are looking to add a few more stores in the coming months and expanding our veggie growth…..maybe a CSA next fall/winter? Anyone interested? I am also thinking of adding some help with my harvests this year. I finally realize I can’t do it all…..and maybe one day Jim will join me on the farm. I could certainly use his hands-just not when it comes to harvesting our grape tomatoes and blueberries…..he’d eat more than harvest!

We have also had a very quiet couple of weeks and it has given us the time to reflect on where to focus our energy this next season…..I've already started the first seed trays-collards, kale and lettuce and more to follow. Seed orders are getting placed and tunnels are getting some long needed attention to soil (and weeding!-yes they grow in the winter too) We have survived our subzero temps-it was -8 degrees last week with a wind chill of -27. Yikes, but the spinach is still producing, the rosemary in the tunnels is blooming and all perennial pots are still alive.

One of the products we are focusing on this year will be elderberry plants. We will be offering Sambuca canadensis-Wyldewood, Bob Gordon and York. These are the American elderberry. We are still planting elderberry bushes for harvest-European and American, but we would like to let others have the fun of growing your own syrup or jam or wine! These will be available this spring and into the fall

As we toast the New Year-with our Shrub of course-we would like to wish you an abundant and healthy new year!

Peace and Light

What is a ‘Shrub’ you ask? It is a ‘drinking’ vinegar that dates back to colonial days as a way to preserve the harvest. It combines fruit, sugar and vinegar to make a tart/sweet mix. Our ingredients are: Organic Dried Elderberries, Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar and Organic Cane Sugar! Shrubs can be a stand alone drink or most commonly today as mocktails or cocktails. Simply adding a carbonated beverage makes a refreshing, thirst quenching drink. Now that it’s colder outside, we are adding a splash of our fresh ginger syrup to the mix-yummy and warming. Cheers everyone!
